A Bit of Reflection

Well you've probably noticed, but the formatting template of the blog is different now. I think I like the format, but I'm not sure yet. I hope you like it!

We haven't gotten too much done yet this week, so we might just be done with the project. The rap song that we have is pretty cool and I think it adequately addresses a lot of the AP Human Geography curriculum. We have one other song that we could record in theory, but I don't think we will.

So I think next we will work on making the recording seem more official and adding some sort of video, gif, or art to it.

I've been told that now I need to reflect on the project so far and talk about how I've diverged from the original path I made for myself.

I started with the proposal, which looked a little something like this.

We definitely diverged from the original path that we set for the project. I wanted to have three songs of at least two minutes each, which was incredibly naive and overly optimistic. There was really no way we were going to coordinate our schedules to do everything.

We stayed on that path because we kept the fundamental idea the same. We still have rapping about Human Geography that will, in theory, help people to study. We have lots of information and the length of the song is similar to what we thought it would be. I think we stayed with those parts of the plan because they were so integral and were the bare basics.

As I mentioned above, we diverged from our original path because we only have one song. We wanted to have three, not just one. I think we did this because once we had the basics done, there didn't seem like a lot of incentive to do more.

Overall, I think I've learned a lot through this project so far. I've learned that it is really hard to coordinate people's schedules. I've also learned that it is really important to plan things out ahead of time so it is easy to know who needs to do what.

This is a link to the blog of a student I found who is doing a similar project. Please check it out!

I guess that's all for now.

Finally!!! We actually got something done!!!

My excitement at thinking about what I've gotten done.

So I guess I should explain what I did. Over the weekend, Eric and I got together and recorded the first rap! We had some difficulty in the actual recording process because we didn't record every part at the same and neither of us had used the recording program before. I don't know how to link the project to here, but I will work on that.

I was so bad at rapping, and it was actually kind of sad. I guess that will be something to work on in the future.

We also wrote another song, but it is far too short and we are working on that song at this point.

Next, we will be working on recording that new song so that we can have an album and not just a single (we can't just be a one-hit wonder!).

Alright, so I guess that is all.

Right. So. It's another Thursday in my suburban high school, so that means another week has passed in the history of this project. My partner and I haven't done too much since the last time I blogged, mostly because this week has been really stressful and I have other, more productive things to do with my time that I put ahead of this project. This week and next week are big testing weeks, so it's been... uh... great. After next week, though, that will be changing a bit.

We are not doing too much at the moment, but in two days we will be recording our first song. We will also be writing at least one more song to record. After that, we will work on editing and some album cover.

This cool map could be a potential album cover.
I'm also supposed to start thinking about the presentation I have to make at the end of the project. I think the overarching story I talk about will be about how challenging it is to coordinate your own ideas and someone else's, especially during a busy and stressful time of year. I don't know how I will tie in the research that I have done (and still have to expand on). Maybe I will talk about the way in which the research will impact my project.

Alright then. That's all.

I guess we got something done...

Alright then. So another week has passed in my life, meaning that another week has passed in the history of the Google Time Project. I guess we got something done.

Based on the outline of the songs that I made, Eric wrote the lyrics for a first song. They are great, and I think they will help. The first song we made is about CULTURE.

Culture includes things such as religion and language, like the Hindu religion and Dravidian languages of India.
Right now, we are working on getting the next song written. I've already completed the outline and we know the format (a rap battle), so it shouldn't be too incredibly challenging.

After that, we will start to record the songs. Also, we have a new name for the rap group: F!NNS and the IllumiBotti (Eric's last name is Botti, so he thinks it will be fun to have the "IllumiBotti" part).

Last week, the class reviewed each other's blogs. I thought it was nice to be able to look at others' blogs because it gave me new ideas for what I need to do in my next blog posts. According to other people's assessments (and my own), I need to work on my style and voice. I'm not sure how to do that, but I'm gonna (too forced?) work on it.

We also need a final timeline for the project, so here I go:

By May 7, we need all of the songs written because this is the date when we have decided to record the songs. We will also work on a required video log then because it's the only date when we can really show stuff getting done.

By May 14, We will do final editing if necessary.

By May 21, We will have an album cover.

Overall, we still have a ton of work to do, along with a full research essay.

The main obstacle is finding the time to do things, so the way we have decided to overcome that is by dedicating a day when we have to do things. Of course, it's two days before a final (R.I.P. me), but meh.

Wish me luck!

Also, here's a great blog by a teacher who runs 20 Time. Check it out!

Running Out of Title Ideas

So this week has again been pretty uneventful, as seems to be a common motif so far during this project. Ah well, at least I have actually been working.

Field Of Poppies, Brandenburg, Nature
The field of accomplishments has gotten somewhat less empty!
This weekend, I actually got an outline finished that includes the topics that each song will include, which was beneficial because it provided a place to start.

Current mood

If today was the last day of this project, the main thing I would have learned would be that it is really challenging to work with others in such a way that different schedules do not clash. My partner and I have not been able to get together to actually get real work done, mostly because we are both involved in sports and we are both in advanced classes. Those two factors combine to make our weekends all about sports and getting caught up on homework, and weeknights are not much better.

That kind of struggle is important because it shows that getting something done is not as easy as just saying you will get it done, which is a valuable piece of knowledge.

However, the project is not over yet, so stay tuned for more advancements!

Yet Another Post

Okay. So I'm told that it has been quite a long time since the 20 Time project was assigned. And wow. Look at this field of things I've gotten done.

The field is basically empty.

Just like last week, I have made little progress in the actual project. However, I have made some progress in developing questions that I will have to research for a research paper based off of the project. My questions are:

1. Why does listening to music help people learn? (This is the overarching question that the others are somewhat based on)

2. What kind of music helps people learn best?

3. What has driven students to search for alternative studying methods rather than conventional studying?

4. What is the history of music as a basis for learning?

These questions will make a good basis for the story I want to tell about my project after I have completed it because they discuss the relevance of the project. I think that my answers will help people to realize that my project was necessary and without completing it, people will not be as successful. The answers will provide a lot of information that I can use in my presentation as well, so they will be helpful.

I haven't started the research yet, but here is one place I might be starting.

Also, the rap group now has a name: Eryk Be and the F!NNS

This weekend, I will be working with Eric over Skype to develop lyrics to the first songs of the album. After that, we will be working on recording the songs and getting them edited. I don't know how we will be editing the songs, but we will have to figure that out soon.

Overall, I've gotten some things done this week, but I really need to get more done.

This Week in GHEnglish

This week has not been incredibly outstanding so far in terms of the 20 Time Project. I haven't gotten any farther in working on the project, even though according to my schedule I'm supposed to work on tentative lyrics soon!

Aaah! So much work to do!!!

A few weeks ago I handed in my proposal for the project and that went relatively well. Writing it out was pretty helpful because I got to really figure out how the project will go. I like to plan things out in advance, so that was really nice. I also got to see how much work I have to do.

As well, I got some good feedback about the logistics of the project and what different components will be. Specifically, my teacher questioned how the background music will work. It was a good question, and I'm not sure just yet what the answer is.

Image result for question

I've got some thinking to do

I also have completed my elevator pitch, which was actually a lot of fun. It was helpful to get up in front of the class and pitch my idea.

Next, I will have to work on the lyrics with Eric and figure out what the songs will cover specifically. Then I will work on figuring out how we will record our album.

The big challenge of this week has been that other classes are really picking up in workload and testing, so it's been really hard to find the time to work on this project. I put my other classes higher in priority level than working on this project, and I don't think that will end soon, so I just have to get my other work sorted out soon.

I've looked more into other examples of the 20 Time project. This one is solid.,d.amc

Sorry if these links are not working... I am just trying to figure it out now.

Overall, this week has not been incredibly eventful so far in the life of the project, but I'm looking forward to actually starting soon.
